Advanced technology

At David Bull Optometrists our aim is to provide the best eye care service. It is for that reason we continually invest in technology that assist us in monitoring how healthy your eyes are and how they are performing.

The long term care of your eyes is greatly improved if it is possible to capture, store and, in future, compare a permanent record of the eye, including the smallest retinal details.  In 1997 we were the first eye care practice in our area to offer digital imaging, technology that is only now becoming used by other practices.  But we believe in constant improvement and keeping pace with the latest developments in eye care.

OCT scanning

In 2007 we became one of the first practices in the UK to use Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) a quick, painless procedure which uses light to scan the eye and produces 3-D images. This highly advanced technique allows us to screen more accurately than ever before for such conditions as glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal detachments and lots of other serious eye disorders.

OCT forms part of our fully comprehensive eye examination for our private patients or as an upgrade option to those who qualify for an NHS sight test.

OPTOMAP Retinal Imaging

By having a regular eye examination we can check the front of your eyes, but also using the Optomap retinal imaging equipment, we can make a thorough screening of the retina, at the back of your eye.

Many eye health and general health conditions, such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retina tears, diabetes and risk of stroke can be seen in the retina. The Optomap retinal imaging provides us with this crucial information and imagery.

Early detection of such conditions can prevent further deterioration and enable us to stabilise your eye health, as well as successfully treat a problem.

The Optomap retinal examination is quick, painless and it provides us with a complete view of the retina at once.
