June 26th – July 2nd marks National Macular Week designed to raise awareness of this eye condition which is the commonest cause of registerable visual impairment in the UK. As yet the exact causes are unknown but there are steps that you can take to reduce the risk and foremost among them is to stop smoking. Smokers are four times more likely to develop age-related macular degeneration (AMD) so for the sake of your sight as well as your general health quit now!
